Thonet S79 Cantilever Chair

The used S79 cantilever chair by Thonet is modern and elegant. A perfect chair for the meeting room, conference room, but also good to use as a dining chair. The seat shell of molded plywood is connected to the tubular steel frame via the armrests. The armrests, covered with wood, run in a curve to the back and are connected to the seat shell. The diameter of the tubular steel is kept to a minimum, making this comfortable chair lightweight and giving it an elegant, clear appearance.

Since Mart Stam invented the tubular steel “Freischwinger” in the 1930s, the design has been closely associated with Thonet. The Freischwinger construction creates a springy effect that guarantees extra seating comfort.

The Thonet S73 and S74 are very similar to the S78 and S79, except that the S73 and S74 have an open back and the S78 and S79 have a closed back.
